Elena, you were wise, bright, insightful, funny, and full of life. You took an interest in people and saw them for who they are. I loved you because you were strong willed and principled, something you passed that onto your kids. You welcomed me into your family and I hope that how I cared for your daughter and grandchildren would have made you happy and proud. You said it how it is and although we may not have always shared the same opinion you would listen and try understand someone else’s point of view. I’ll miss you, and in committing this to word I recognise what a profound influence you have had on me and how sad I feel. There are not enough words to describe 54 years of friendship. We have shared moments that marked both our lives. There was deep love, lots of laughter, great moments of joy, tears, hopes and dreams. We have lived it all. There is no goodbye Elenaki mou. Just I love you and I already miss you terribly.

It is rare in life that we have the chance to meet an exceptional person, who we can call a friend. Elena was this person for me.
